New research on food and meal practices in Norwegian kindergartens has been published. Public health is crucial from an early age, and through Healthier kids, we contribute to just that!

Here the findings are briefly summarized:

  • Continued for small fish, vegetables, whole grains, and the use of the keyhole
  • Most kindergartens serve fruit daily, and sugary foods and drinks are rare.
  • Employees need greater knowledge of food and meal guidelines and use the meal as an educational arena to a greater extent.
  • Less than 50% know national guidelines for food and meals.
  • A lot of good work is done; thus, there has been little change in food and meal practices since the Norwegian Directorate of Health was surveyed in 2011.
  • Further, there is desirable to have more studies that can find possible measures that affect food and meal activity in kindergartens to an even greater extent.

We believe it is crucial to evaluate various initiatives to find the measures that can contribute to even better food and meal practices in kindergartens and after-school clubs.
